Interesting "scrap" item - Bracelet w/ Eagle, Phil, Panda, Maple, more

Someone brought this in today. I had to cut all the coins out of their bezels, but this photo gives you an idea. Every coin pictured here except for the 1oz Krug and the 1/25 Isle of Man was on this bracelet. Really cool variety. Never seen this many coins on a single bracelet.

- 1/4oz Philharmonic
- 1/4oz Panda
- 1/10oz GAE
- 1/10oz generic 24K
- 2 Peso
- US $5 gold piece
- Bahamas $100 gold coin (about 1/4oz)
- heavy 22-24K natural gold nugget

She also sold a 1oz Krug and a 1/25oz Isle of Man proof.

The high purity coins look pretty chewed up. She must have worn it rock-climbing.

No, that's from me having to cut them all out of bezels. I was able to get out a couple of the coins without damaging them, but unfortunately I couldn't do it for all of the coins. Which sucks, because there are some high premium coins in there. They'll have to be scrapped out at 98%.

98%???

Hell, I'd give you full melt...if gold was still 950.

Nice find. Not to high jack your thread but I purchased eleven 2.80 ounce Silver bars from a dealer who was going to send them to be melted. Here is a picture of one I found on e-bay.

why couldn't ya just leave it alone and sell it on ebay?

or sent it to me, My wife could have gotten em out without a scratch

She say's she can't see any reason why you would have to damage the coins to get them out.

Why didn't you take a pic of the bracelet before you messed with it?

edit. But like Goldwampum says...Its your stuff...do as you please with it

What's it to you. It wasn't yours.

Hope you didn't give more than 50% Skeptic. It's just scrap. I'll never understand why people intentionally ruin coin value by making welded decorations out of them. Stupid is as stupid does I suppose. Take the money run. Your "friends" here at GIM are just green with envy. What an ugly attribute that is. The open market is the first and last bastion of Freedom.

I paid spot price for them from the dealer. I bought eleven in total. Supposedly there is twelve to the whole set, all very pretty. Soon I will take a picture and post pictures of all of them.

.999. Here is one I found on e-bay that I also have. Very interesting items.

:111: I'm ashamed to admit that I paid her about 83% spot total. The bracelet body and the bezels were where I made the money; I paid spot or just a few dollars less on all the coins. No harm though; I still made a few hundred dollars, and scored some coins.

14K Bracelet and bezels
multiple .900 coins
multiple 22K coins
multiple 24K coins
one unknown coin

It would've taken 20 minutes to get the exact weight of each coin, then extrapolate the weight of the remaining 14K.

feebay? Ludicrous fees, potential to be scammed (as the seller you are way more vulnerable than a buyer), PayPal 60-day reserve on 20% of my payments, the hassle of listing it, etc.

I agree. Though I do have a nice 1/10 Eagle set in a 14K bezel with white gold and small diamonds on top. Very pretty. But for the most part these things are a nuisance when you're trying to properly weigh and measure the coin.

This lady's idea was pretty cool though, apparently she had done quite a bit of traveling and would bring back a gold coin from different countries. Then her jeweler would add them on to the bracelet for her.

It's stories like this that make me want to go into the gold scrapping business.:banghead:

I've spent enough time around dealers who are buying to know it's not all rainbows, butterflies, and dirt cheap gold. There's a lot of bullshit to wade through, people trying to scam you with fake items, people who can't comprehend the relationship between what they paid for something and what it's worth, and listening to people's sob stories while they try to get a little charity. I too would like gold at 40%, but all things considered I'd rather do what I do for a living and read about the scrap gold buying business here at GIM.

Oh yeah - this is a big one. Especially with scrap silver. The worst one I can remember is when a woman told me she paid about $400 for what would've melted to just over 1ozt of silver.

Fortunately, I don't really hear any sob stories. Over the last 6 months we've done hundreds of transactions, and 90% of the time the people don't seem desperate at all, they just comment that they don't wear any of the jewelry any more. Doesn't fit, it's broken, from an ex, whatever.

This is a very good business to be in, at least for now.

Very nice art bars indeed. An excellent art bar find for an excellent price IMO. You did very well for paying spot for them. :bear_thumb:
